What Survives Contact With Reality
When I finished my degree in 2017, I assumed the frameworks would be the useful part. Nine years later, the useful part turned out to be the habit they drill into you about writing things down.
Three Tools I Still Use
- Decision logs: one page per significant call, with the assumptions recorded.
- Service level thinking: define what "on time" means before measuring it.
- Stakeholder mapping: the people who can stop a project are rarely the people on the org chart.
The Skills That Matter Most
Procurement, logistics and programme management are all the same problem with different nouns: getting a deliverable to someone who needs it, on a date you promised. The Management Club is where I first learned to promise carefully.
